Three tips to share that have saved me
during our recent and long lasting illness
and other times too, I guess
Tip Number One:
did you know your crock-pot can be used as a humidifier?
Just fill it with water, crack the lid, and turn it on.
Genius!
Tip Number Two:
Lavender Essential Oil.
Rub it on your skin after you shave.
No more razor bumps.
Love it.
Tip Number Three:
A rice bag.
Is exactly what it sounds like.
A flannel bag, filled with rice (NOT instant) and sewn shut.
Toss it into the microwave for 2-3 minutes
and it's the perfect heating bag.
Use it to warm up your bed before bedtime.
Or cramps. Or cold toes.
Or put it in the freezer for an 'ice pack'
You could make one with a piece of flannel about the size of
a piece of paper, or however big you want.
Then fold it in half to make your bag.
Or, I just tossed some rice into a long sock and tied knot.

I'm going to try your humidifier tip. We have two going but it's been so dry inside they aren't enough.
AFter I read your crockpot I said Ha. I need to do that. Fabulous tip. Thank you!
the crockpot is a great idea. i had a pot of water going on the stove today (with orange peels, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, and cloves), and i let it burn down! oops.
love my rice pack, too:)
I have a rice bag with lavender in it. You can do all the neat things with it you mentioned with the added bonus that it smells good, too.
The crockpot thing makes so much sense!
Thanks!
We always make our rice bags out of wash rags. They are one of my favorite things, we like to always have them on hand.
Did you know that peppermint essential oil can help with headaches? Just dab a tiny bit on your temples. It helps to oxygenate the blood and relieve pressure. That reminds me, I need to stock up on essential oil. :)
Thanks for the tips! I met a lady at the last farmer's market who has a lavender farm out in the boonies so maybe next time I go, I'll get some of her essential oil!
GREAT tips - I love the idea of the rice bag~ We always want/need a heating pad or ice pack around here. :)
I love all those ideas!
:)
I LOVE the crockpot humidifier. I bet putting a few drops of eucalyptus oil would help with a good nights sleep as well!

Cute cute blog!! And great tips!! I will be using them!
Oh my heck- I remember when you use to make rice bags for money! Crazy!
The lavendar, diluted in some olive oil is great for baby diaper rash too! I also love it!
And really genius on the crock pot thing- no more wasting my money and a humidifier every couple of years! Thanks!
Wow! Very cool! I will definitely be trying the humidifier. And those rice bags save me!
Wow, great crock pot tip! We were just up at our grandparents' cabin in the mountains and the air is SOOO dry up there. And this weekend our humidifier is totally on the fritz and I was loathing buying a new one. But we have an extra crock pot! Perfect!
Jackie, I love reading your blog during a break at work. Thank you for keeping entertaining and informative. :)
You aren't supposed to do this with humidifiers because it gums it up over time, but we like to put a spoonful of Vicks vapor rub in with the water. I bet it would work with a crockpot and if nothing else so much easier to clean.
There's a Lavender farm near Brenham. I'm going one of these days. They also have a gift shop that makes a wonderful lavender soap.
Lavender is supposed to help with headaches. We keep a lavender rice bag in the freezer and warm it if needed in the microwave, since we down have a frozenwave to make it instantly cold.
Hi. Just stopping by to check out your site :D Have a great weekend.
Those are really awesome tips! I love lavender and always have some on hand. It's a staple in Southern France and is used to keep linen fresh, repel bugs, ease headaches, etc. Where my sister now lives (Provence), they have huge fields of lavender in bloom in the summer. It's the most beautiful sight!
Jackie, you made me a rice bag when we were living at the Elms (purple with skiing penguins flannel) and I still use it every night for cold feet in bed. I need all the help I can get to survive these Utah winters!! Love you!!
