Romania week: Let me intorduce my kids...

(My non-biological kids.)
The orphanage we worked at was for
kids with severe disabilities.
These are the children of group five.
Kristy, Sherrie, Lora and I worked there.
We each had four or five kids that were assigned to us.

Who: Marius
Age: 14 years
Loves: snuggling, playing tricks, having a laugh at your expense
Random Facts: I love this boy! I loved all the kids, but I sure loved this boy. I think every BYU girl that goes over there falls in love with one kid. That way each child has one special connection. At first, Marius was the hardest to love. He's a little bit cynical, which you can tell even though he is non-verbal. He was the oldest kid at the orphanage. We just to joke he would make the perfect Halloween decoration because he cackled all the time. I'm sure he understands English, because he used to laugh at my jokes. He would get SO excited to see me. It was always the best part of my day.

Who: Petrica
Age: 3 years
Loves: Sucking on his fingers while waving his other hand in front of his face while laughing.
Random Facts: Petrica, along with the other kids in the isolation room, spend the entire day laying in their crib. He could lay on his tummy and lift his head up. He also spit up on me ALL the time. (Good preparation for Brigham.)

Who: Ana Maria (in the center)
Age: 3 years
Loves: chewing on the bars in her crib, singing songs
Random Facts: Ana Maria also spends the day laying in her crib. She, along with David (left) and Simona (right) have Cerebral Palsy. She is ALWAYS smiley! She recoginized my voice and while smile when she heard me.

Who: Florina (pictured with her twin sister Irina)
Age: 3 years
Loves: Hitting you in the face, practicing her walking, tape recorders
Random Facts: Florina had more health problems and has spent more time in the hospital than Irina. Consequently, she is more developmentally delayed. She also had worse Reactive Attachment Disorder. They do not stay in the same room, or even recongize each other. She makes the funniest faces, and loves to play with string.

I remember Marius (and that grey and red sweater he is wearing). I wasn't in that filter though.
I remember that yellow chair too...

Oh wow, you are so brave! It breaks my heart just to see pictures of these kids and hear the stories. Were they orphans?

Forgot to say...my mom works with handicapped children (mental and physical handicaps, also social handicaps). I think she would be very impressed with your story.

It sounds like those kids need so much love. It's so sad that they are left in an orphanage. I am sure everyone has a different story of how they ended up there, but you can't help but wonder where the parents are. I bet you made SUCH a difference in their lives because you are so loving and kind.

I was deeply moved as I read about each precious child. You were blessed to know each child and they were blessed to know you!
